On match days the atmosphere is genuinely friendly, the kind of place where you'll actually hear what's happening on the pitch instead of being drowned out by a roaring crowd. Non-matchday visits depend on what the club has arranged; best to ring ahead or check their website for stadium tours or open training sessions. It's ideal if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Wagtail Park is barely a mile and a half away, making it an easy evening outing. Flaxton Meadows and Nurseries Caravan Park, both north of York centre, are within five miles. The stadium works best for football-daft families or anyone keen to catch a National League match without travelling three hours. York itself has plenty to occupy you - the Minster, the walls, the Shambles - so you won't be stuck if match day doesn't materialise. Allow a couple of hours for a matchday visit, longer if there's a tour on offer. It's not a day-long attraction, but it's a decent addition to a York holiday if football's your thing.
