Llynclys Hill

The walk up Llynclys Hill rewards you with proper views across the Shropshire-Powys border, and on a clear day you'll spot the Long Mynd rising in the distance. It's a modest peak by Welsh standards - nothing that'll leave you gasping - but the climb takes about forty minutes from the village, which sits just outside Oswestry, and gives you that satisfied feeling of having earned the vista without needing full fell-walking kit.

This works best for walkers who want something purposeful but not punishing, and families with kids old enough to manage a steady uphill trek. The summit itself is unremarkable - there's no cairn or shelter, just grass and the views - so don't expect a destination café or viewing platform. What you get is solitude, which is rather nice, and the chance to ramble across the moorland without crowds. On weekends near Oswestry, that's becoming rarer.

Timing-wise, allow two to three hours if you're taking it leisurely and want to sit about at the top. Best avoided in proper fog or after heavy rain when the path gets boggy. If you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Sweeney Farm Glamping sits barely over a mile away, and Tanat Holiday Park is close too - this makes an ideal morning sortie before lunch. It slots in well with exploring the border country round about. Nothing flashy, but solid walking country that doesn't demand a full day's commitment.
