Little Lippen Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured tourist trap, Little Lippen Wood sits just outside Alresford in Hampshire and delivers exactly what it promises - trees, paths, and the sound of actual birdsong instead of gift shop muzak. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, the canopy dense enough to block out most of the sky, and in spring the bluebells are genuinely worth timing a visit around. You're looking at a 30 to 45-minute ramble depending on which way you loop it, nothing too demanding but enough to feel like you've properly walked rather than strolled.

This is squarely walker territory - families with restless toddlers might find it a bit samey after 20 minutes, but older kids who actually enjoy being outdoors will get a kick out of spotting wildlife and climbing the occasional fallen log. It's free to access, no gates, no car park fees, just turn up and crack on. The paths are reasonably well-trodden so you won't need a map, though the light under the trees can be tricky on overcast days.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Cedar Valley or Woodlands Camping are both within 3 miles - it's a solid leg-stretcher between site activities. Alresford itself has enough going on to fill an afternoon, and Little Lippen slots in nicely as the green space break. Not life-changing, but exactly the kind of unpretentious woodland you're after when you want fresh air and nothing else.
