Little Adam's Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Little Adam's Wood sits just outside Westbury-on-Severn and offers exactly what you'd expect from a small Gloucestershire forest - decent trails through mixed woodland, plenty of shade, and the kind of peace that makes you remember why you bothered driving out here in the first place.

The wood itself isn't massive. You're looking at a solid hour's wander if you take it slow, less if you just want to stretch your legs. The paths are manageable underfoot, though can get a bit muddy after rain - proper walking boots aren't essential but they'll make life easier. It's the sort of place where you'll spot bluebells in spring if you time it right, and the canopy does proper work keeping things cool even when the rest of Gloucestershire is baking.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit limited for a half-day trip on its own, but it works brilliantly as part of a wider ramble around the area. Combine it with a walk along the Severn or a visit to one of the nearby glamping spots like Greenacres or Darnells' Farm, and you've got yourself a decent morning. Older walkers and anyone after a quiet forest fix will get more from it.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water. Free to access, naturally - it's woodland, not a theme park. Worth the detour if you're staying locally, though I wouldn't plan a trip around it specifically.
