Lincombe Boatyard

The Kingsbridge estuary gets properly busy come summer, and Lincombe Boatyard is right in the thick of it. This working marina sits where the Avon River meets the wider water system, and it's the sort of place that actually feels like something happens here - you'll see boats being hauled out, people tinkering with engines, the usual organised chaos of a functioning boatyard rather than a manicured tourist spot.

It's worth a wander if you're into boats or fancy watching the tidal action, but I'd be honest: don't expect a day out here. Twenty minutes max, unless you're genuinely interested in naval architecture or you've got mates with moorings. The views down the estuary are decent, and there's something quite satisfying about watching a boatyard actually work rather than sitting empty.

For families, it's a decent leg-stretch break if you're exploring the Kingsbridge area. Kids might watch the boats for a bit, but they won't be entertained for long. Walkers doing the South West Coast Path will pass nearby and might pop in out of curiosity.

If you're based at Karrageen Caravan & Camping Park, just a short drive away, the boatyard makes sense as a rainy-day potter rather than a planned activity. Kingsbridge town itself - with its high street and riverside walks - offers far more to fill an afternoon. The boatyard is the sort of place that rewards stumbling upon it rather than travelling specifically to see it.
