Lightgreen Coppice

The woodland around Lightgreen Coppice, just outside Shrewsbury, is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. It's proper old-school Shropshire forest - dense enough that you lose the road noise within minutes, open enough that you're not fighting through brambles the whole time.

There are decent walking trails threading through, nothing too demanding. You'll find mixed woodland, the usual suspects - oak, beech, the occasional birch standing out silver against the darker trees. It's the kind of place where you notice things: fungi after rain, bird activity in the quieter sections, shafts of light through the canopy on a clear day.

Families won't be bored, though younger kids might need a destination in mind rather than just 'a walk in the woods'. Serious walkers will find it a solid local circuit, and it's the sort of spot where you can actually hear yourself think - which matters more than you'd expect when you're on holiday.

The coppice sits well within striking distance of Mill Farm Holiday Park and Lower Hill Campsite, both properly rated spots. You could easily slot a morning or afternoon here without it eating your whole day, then head back to base for proper amenities. Worth checking locally about any specific paths that are maintained or particularly recommended - Shrewsbury's only five miles away, so the visitor centre there will have current info on conditions and access points.
