Fox Covert

If you're staying at any of the nearby parks - Worfe Camping is barely over a mile away, or Mill Farm Holiday Park if you're after something slightly larger - it's a convenient leg-stretch without needing to drive far. Families with young kids will find it manageable enough, though there's not much here to hold attention for hours. Bring binoculars if you're keen on woodland birds; the name gives away that foxes live here too, though you're unlikely to spot one.

No visitor infrastructure to speak of. It's free to access and there are no formal opening hours - you just turn up. Spring's when the woodland comes alive with bluebells and bird activity. Winter's quieter but drier underfoot than autumn. Pair it with a walk along the River Severn in Shrewsbury town itself, and you've got a decent half-day sorted.
