Lewis Carroll Centenary Wood

A small woodland patch on the outskirts of Northwich dedicated to Lewis Carroll - the man who gave us Alice in Wonderland. It's nothing elaborate: just trees, pathways, and the peculiar appeal of standing somewhere that honours one of England's most celebrated authors. You won't find theme park installations or visitor centres here, which is rather the point.

The wood works best for a quiet walk rather than a destination in itself. Carroll fans will appreciate the connection, naturally, but anyone who enjoys a gentle woodland ramble through Cheshire countryside will find it pleasant enough. The paths are straightforward, and there's a certain literary romance to it all - though managing expectations helps. This isn't a major attraction; it's more a worthwhile addition to a broader exploration of the area.

If you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Belmont Hall Camping, Lady Heyes Holiday Park, or Cheshire Glamping at Lady Heyes are all within a few miles - it makes sense to slot in on a morning walk. Northwich itself sits on the River Weaver and has decent amenities for lunch afterwards. Allow an hour to wander without rushing, longer if you're inclined to sit and contemplate Carroll's connection to the place.

Best visited during spring or early autumn when the woodland floor isn't waterlogged and the light filters nicely through the canopy. Summer crowds are unlikely to be an issue here.
