Leven Nature Park

A proper walk along the Leven, this nature park sits just outside Driffield and gives you a genuine slice of East Yorkshire's quieter side. The river itself is the draw - chalk stream, clear water, and the sort of landscape that makes you remember why people move to the countryside. You'll spot kingfishers if you're lucky, though mostly it's herons, ducks, and the occasional roe deer slipping through the willows.

It's a straightforward riverside walk rather than a manicured attraction with benches and signage everywhere. Bring decent boots if there's been rain - the path gets squelchy. Most people manage an hour here without rushing, though walkers could easily stretch it to two. Children will enjoy spotting wildlife if they're patient types; restless kids might get bored once they've thrown a few sticks in the water.

The real value is as a breather between caravan park days. Blue Rose Country Park and Dacre Lakeside Park are barely a mile away, so you could slot this in without much driving about. Early morning or late afternoon works best for wildlife spotting, and the light's kinder on photography then too. Free to access, no facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared.

It's not dramatic or showy. There are no cliffs or castle ruins. But if you want to actually see what the Wolds landscape does when nobody's trying to make it spectacular, this does the job. Well worth the detour if you're staying locally.
