Families with restless kids might find thirty minutes enough - there's not much to climb on or interact with, and the site can feel a bit lonely in poor weather.

The admission arrangements aren't entirely clear from the usual sources, so phone ahead or check locally in Braintree. Allow an hour minimum if you're doing it properly, longer if you're the sort who reads every historical marker.

The location itself is unremarkable - flat Essex countryside - so don't expect landscape drama alongside your history.
