Langley Park Country Park

A sprawl of woodland, open fields, and proper walking routes - that's Langley Park Country Park just outside Uxbridge. The sort of place where you can actually breathe after the commuter belt tightens around you.

Once you're in, there's a decent network of paths threading through ancient trees and across meadows. It's managed land, so you won't feel like you're hacking through wilderness, but it doesn't feel manicured either. Birdwatchers come here regularly - the woodland attracts woodpeckers, nuthatches, and various warblers depending on the season. If you're bringing kids, they'll burn energy without needing a destination in sight. Adults wanting a proper two-hour walk will find enough ground to cover without it becoming a slog.

The park works well as a morning adventure if you're based at Wyatts Covert Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite up the road - close enough for an easy drive, far enough to feel genuinely removed from the caravan park routine. Come on a weekday morning if you want relative peace. Weekends get busier with dog walkers and local runners, which is fine if you like that sort of company.

Free to access, no facilities that I'm aware of worth mentioning, so pack your own water and don't expect loos. Best visited spring through autumn when the woodland's in proper condition. Winter's muddy and grey here - worthwhile only if you're determined.
