Land's End Sign

The sign itself is unassuming - a simple wooden structure planted at the cliff edge, painted in bold red and white stripes. What makes it matter is what it represents: the absolute southwestern tip of England, 874 miles from John o' Groats if you're keeping score. You'll find it perched above the Atlantic, with nothing between you and the horizon except spray and seabirds. The actual experience is brief. Ten minutes for photos, another ten if you want to soak in the view properly. But there's something primal about standing at the literal end of the landmass, watching the waves crash against the rocks below.

It's genuinely busy. Coachloads arrive daily, especially in summer, so arrive early or expect queuing just to get a decent shot. The clifftop area has become commercial - cafes, gift shops, the lot - which can feel at odds with the raw landscape.

This works best as part of a broader coastal walk rather than a standalone trip. The surrounding cliffs are dramatic, and the South West Coast Path offers serious hiking if you're keen. From Penzance, it's about 40 minutes' drive west. If you're staying at Lands End Camping & Glamping, you're literally doorstep-close, which saves the faffing about with parking. Roselands Caravan Camping Park is further back towards Penzance but better positioned if you want to explore the wider area.

Worth a visit if you're in Cornwall? Yes. Worth planning a day around it alone? Probably not. Combine it with the coastal scenery, a clifftop walk, and a proper pub meal back in Penzance, and you've got a solid afternoon.
