Lake Coppice

The woodland walk around Lake Coppice, just outside Bridgnorth, is a proper dose of Shropshire quiet. It's a small forest lake ringed by mature trees - nothing flashy, nothing Instagram-ready, but genuinely peaceful. The water's dark and still, reflecting the canopy above, and there's a decent footpath that loops around it without being demanding.

You're looking at maybe forty minutes to an hour here, depending on how slowly you dawdle. The path is manageable for families with older kids, though it can get muddy after rain - common sense footwear required. The main appeal is just that sense of being properly away from things, surrounded by trees and birdsong. Dog walkers love it for obvious reasons.

If you're based at Wheathill Touring Park nearby, it's a fifteen-minute drive and worth the detour on a fine afternoon. Don't expect facilities - there's no cafe, no visitor centre, no gift shop nonsense. It's just a forest and a lake. Whether that's exactly what you want depends entirely on your mood. Some people find genuine comfort in that simplicity; others might feel a bit underwhelmed after the drive.

Go early if you can, especially weekends. The car park fills up surprisingly quickly given how understated the place is. And take the path clockwise - the light's better that way in the afternoon.
