Ladyfield Evangelical Church

A small evangelical chapel sitting quietly on the edge of Wiltshire countryside, just outside Chippenham. Ladyfield isn't the sort of place you'd stumble across by accident - it's genuinely off the beaten track, which is rather the point. The building itself is modest, unpretentious, typical of the nonconformist chapels that pepper rural England. If you're interested in religious architecture or the social history of dissenting churches, it's worth a look. Otherwise, it won't hold you more than fifteen minutes.

This is really one for walkers and local history enthusiasts rather than casual tourists. The area around Chippenham has some decent walking country, and if you're based at one of the nearby sites - Plough Lane Caravan Site or Roe Deer Fields are both close by - you could incorporate it into a ramble without much bother. The bigger draw would be heading into Chippenham itself for proper amenities, or pushing further into the Cotswolds.

No admission charge, as far as I can tell, though you'd need to contact someone locally to confirm opening arrangements. It's the sort of place you visit because you're already in the area, not because you've made a special journey. On a sunny afternoon, the surrounding countryside is pleasant enough, but the chapel itself is more of a historical footnote than a destination.
