Kinmont Buck Barrow

The walk up Kinmont Buck isn't going to wear you out, but it's proper satisfying. This fell rises above Holmrook with just enough challenge to feel like you've earned the view without needing fell running shoes and a thermos of coffee. From the top - and this is the bit worth the effort - you get a decent panorama across the Cumbrian fells and down towards the coast. It's one of those spots where you can see why people get addicted to walking around here.

Really, this is a half-day job rather than a full expedition. Families with teenagers will find it manageable; younger kids might need some encouragement on the steeper bits. If you're after proper alpine drama or rare plants, you'll be disappointed. But if you want a straightforward fell walk without spending seven hours navigating a ridge, Kinmont Buck does the job. The climb takes maybe an hour depending on your pace and how often you stop to catch your breath.

There's nothing fancy about it - no visitor centre, no facilities on the summit. Bring water and a snack. Weather here changes fast, so check the forecast before you head out.
