Kiln Heath

Walk far enough into Kiln Heath's woodland and you'll forget you're just outside Haywards Heath. It's a proper forest - the kind where the canopy gets thick enough that you lose the sky for a bit, and the path winds through enough turns that you can't quite remember which way you came in.

What you get here is straightforward: woodland walking. There are trails threading through the trees, nothing too demanding, and enough variation in the scenery that it doesn't feel repetitive even if you're out for an hour or more. The forest floor is soft underfoot most of the time, which is pleasant enough, though it can get boggy in patches after rain. In spring the place comes alive with birdsong and green; autumn brings the usual leaf-colour business.

This is exactly the kind of spot that works brilliantly for families wanting to let the kids burn off energy without needing to plan an entire day trip. Keen walkers might find it a bit modest on its own, but it pairs well with the nearby caravan parks - Gatwick Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, Long Acres, and Worth Forest Glamping are all within striking distance. If you're based at one of those for a few days, Kiln Heath is a decent half-morning escape from campsite life.

Don't expect drama or unusual features. Go if you want a quiet walk among trees near Haywards Heath. Skip it if you're after views or something to photograph.
