The Church of Ireland at Kildress sits on quiet ground just outside Cookstown, and it's the sort of place you'll stumble upon rather than deliberately seek out - which is partly why it's worth the detour. The building itself is modest, elegant in that understated Protestant way, with proper views across the Mid Ulster landscape from the churchyard. You won't spend hours here, but the walk around the grounds is genuinely pleasant, especially if you're cycling or driving through the Sperrin foothills.

It's mainly a stop for people interested in local history or the religious architecture of the region. The churchyard tells its own story through headstones spanning centuries. If you're staying at Sperrinview Glamping just five miles away, this is an easy leg-stretch before heading up into the hills proper.

The reality: Kildress isn't a major attraction. You need to genuinely like old churches and rural cemeteries to get much from it. The building closes unpredictably outside service times, so phone ahead rather than hoping to find it open. Free admission when accessible. Twenty minutes maximum, unless you're sketching headstones or doing genealogy research.
