The car park at Davagh sits quiet most weekday mornings, which is precisely why you should go then. This isn't a destination for casual strollers - it's a serious mountain bike trailhead tucked into Mid Ulster forestry, roughly four miles south of Cookstown. The forest itself is thick and dark, proper old-growth stuff, with trails cut through it that range from beginner loops to genuinely technical terrain.

If you're not on a bike, don't bother. The paths aren't signposted for walkers, and without pedals you'll spend the time feeling like you're trespassing. But for mountain bikers, especially those staying at nearby Sperrinview Glamping, it's a solid morning or afternoon outing. The trails vary in difficulty - easier routes take ninety minutes, the harder lines stretch to three hours depending on how much you're stopping to recover. Mud is a given, even in dry spells.

The Sperrin Mountains loom in the distance if you climb high enough, but honestly you're too focused on line choice and root dodging to appreciate the views much. That's not a complaint. Weather matters here - it can turn from rideable to boggy in about an hour. Spring and autumn are best. Summer brings horseflies that'll drive you mental.
