Kew's Holt

Walk into Kew's Holt and you're walking into proper woodland - the kind with actual depth to it, not just a row of trees by the car park. It's a forest that rewards you for putting in a bit of effort, with trails that wind through established woodland just outside Lincoln, making it an excellent escape when you've had enough of the city itself.

The woodland floor is soft underfoot, and there's enough going on - different tree ages, clearings, the odd stream - to keep walkers interested without it feeling engineered. Families with younger legs might manage an hour comfortably; proper walkers could easily spend two or three pottering about. There's genuine woodland feel here rather than the manicured park experience.

It works brilliantly as a half-day option if you're based at one of the nearby parks - South Cliff Caravan Site is just over two miles away, and both Lakeside and Camper UK Leisure are within striking distance. The forest gives you space to breathe between days at busier attractions, and it's the sort of place where kids can actually run about without ruining someone's afternoon.

Bring proper footwear though. After rain it can get boggy in patches, and the trails aren't maintained to park standard. That's rather the point - it feels like a proper wood, not a tourist amenity. Worth the detour if you're in Lincolnshire and fancy something genuine.
