Kerridge Hill

The walk up Kerridge Hill rewards you with proper views across the Cheshire plains - nothing flashy, but genuinely good on a clear day. From Macclesfield, it's an easy climb with a decent path that doesn't demand fell-walking boots, though the moorland top can be boggy after rain.

What strikes you most is how quickly you escape the town below. Within twenty minutes you're on open ground with gritstone outcrops that catch the light nicely. The summit itself isn't dramatic - no trig point, no big marker - but that's rather the point. It feels like a proper local walk, the kind where you'll see families out stretching their legs on a Sunday afternoon.

The moorland spreads out in all directions, rolling rather than soaring. On good weather you'll spot the Pennines rising up beyond, and on a really clear day the view stretches well into Lancashire. Walking it takes about an hour there and back, ninety minutes if you're dawdling or stopping for photos.
