Keeper's Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Preston, Keeper's Wood is the kind of place you slip into when you need an hour away from the caravan park without going anywhere fancy. It's a small forest - nothing vast - but the trees are decent and there's enough path winding through to keep you occupied without feeling like you're trudging the same loop twice.

You'll find mixed woodland here: mature trees, undergrowth, the works. It's straightforward walking territory, fine for families who don't need everything colour-coded and signposted to death, though younger kids might lose interest if they're expecting a play area. The paths are manageable enough in decent weather, though after rain they can get properly muddy. Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much you dawdle.

This works well as a morning sortie if you're based at Claylands or Orchard Glamping, both barely a mile away. It's not going to replace a proper country estate walk, but it's useful - close enough that you don't burn an entire afternoon getting there and back. The nearest town is Preston, which means you've got decent facilities nearby if you need a coffee afterwards.

Worth doing once if you're in the area for a few days. Don't go out of your way for it, mind - it's a filler attraction rather than a reason to book a holiday. On a clear, dry day it's pleasant enough. Nothing more, nothing less.
