Keeper's Hill

The walk up Keeper's Hill rewards you with one of the best views across the South Downs that most visitors to the area never actually see. It's not the highest point around Petersfield - Queen Elizabeth Country Park has taller ground - but the perspective here is genuinely special. From the summit you're looking out across chalk downland that rolls away in proper ridges and dips, with the Weald spreading out below. The path itself isn't taxing, which means families with older kids can manage it without complaint, though younger ones might find it dull. Allow yourself a good hour up and back, longer if you want to sit about and actually take it in. It's free, naturally, and there's no visitor infrastructure to speak of - bring water and don't expect facilities. The best time is early morning before the light gets too harsh, or late afternoon when the shadows start working properly. This works brilliantly if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Feather Down Manor Farm or Little Cowdray Farm are both within striking distance and ideal for a morning outing before breakfast. Adhurst's yurts are equally close and appeal to the sort of people who'd want a proper walk anyway. It's the kind of place that rewards effort without demanding it, which is why it suits the holiday park crowd so well. Kids will be done in an hour, walkers will want to link it with nearby ridges, and photography types should time their visit carefully. Not a destination by itself, but absolutely worth factoring into a Petersfield-based break.
