Juniper Wall

Scrambling up the limestone cliff face to reach this lookout point requires proper walking boots and a head for heights. The wall itself is a dramatic limestone escarpment that drops away sharply, giving you views across the Gower Peninsula that stretch all the way to the Bristol Channel on clear days.

Walkers and rock climbers will find this spot properly rewarding - it's not a gentle stroll but the effort pays off. The limestone formations are impressive up close, and if you're lucky with the weather, you'll see why the Gower was Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. That said, families with small children should probably give this one a miss. The drops are steep and there's no safety barrier.

Getting here involves a decent walk from the nearest car park in Swansea, so allow at least half a day if you're making the trip. Best visited on a clear morning when the light catches the water properly. The view can be a bit disappointing in hazy conditions - you'll mainly be looking at grey sea meeting grey sky.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks like Gower Holiday Village or Newpark Holiday Park, it makes for a good leg-stretcher, though you'll need to drive closer to the start point. Worth combining with other Gower walks if you're in the area for a few days.
