Jubilee Plantation

The woodland around Jubilee Plantation, just outside Redhill, offers a proper escape into Surrey's quieter side without needing to trek miles from civilisation. It's a forest walk rather than a destination with visitor facilities - the sort of place you go to stretch your legs and breathe in some green air, not to spend a whole afternoon. The trees are decent, mature woodland that gives you that sense of being properly away even though you're minutes from town.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find it a bit of a slog if you're planning more than an hour or so. There's something satisfying about forest paths that aren't overcrowded - you'll likely have the place largely to yourself on a weekday. No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water and remember it can be muddy even days after rain.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby campsites - Alderstead Heath is closest at under 4 miles away - this makes for a decent morning walk before heading elsewhere. It's the kind of spot that fills the gap between the bigger draws. Surrey Hills National Landscape is nearby if you want something more substantial, but Jubilee Plantation works well as a leg-stretcher when you need a break from the caravan. Not spectacular, but honest woodland walking that does what it says on the tin.
