The modern church just east of Waltham Cross is a striking bit of 1960s architecture that catches you off guard if you're not expecting it. All clean lines and geometric forms - this is what post-war optimism looks like in brick and concrete. The interior's equally bold, with light flooding through the windows in a way that feels intentional rather than accidental.

It's worth a quick look if you're cycling through the Lee Valley area or staying at one of the nearby campsites like Lee Valley Campsite or Theobalds Park. Twenty minutes max inside, unless you're genuinely into mid-century ecclesiastical design. The churchyard itself is peaceful enough, though there's nothing here that'll keep you occupied for hours.

Families with older kids might find the architecture interesting - it's different from what they'd expect from a church. Younger children will probably get bored fairly quickly. History buffs keen on post-war Britain will appreciate what it represents, even if it's not everyone's cup of tea aesthetically.

If you're based at Fowley Mead Park or doing the Lee Valley loop, it's a reasonable detour on a bike ride. Don't make a special trip from elsewhere though. Pop in when you're passing, take five minutes to appreciate the boldness of it, then carry on. It's a solid example of how Britain built churches in the 1960s - confident, no-nonsense, and utterly of its time.
