Jubilee Christian Centre

The Jubilee Christian Centre sits just outside Lewes, a working church that won't blow your mind architecturally but serves as a genuine community hub. It's a modern, functional building - the sort of place where locals actually gather for services and events rather than somewhere you'd queue for hours with a camera.

Unless you're after a Sunday service or specific event, there's limited reason to detour here as a tourist attraction. That said, if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites - The Secret Campsite or Blackberry Wood are both excellent - and you're interested in seeing how contemporary Christianity operates in a Sussex village setting, it's worth a quick look. The centre runs community programmes and welcomes visitors, though it's worth ringing ahead to check what's on.

The real draw isn't the building itself but the wider Lewes area. The town proper has the ruins of Lewes Castle, proper medieval stuff that towers over the high street, plus independent bookshops and decent pubs. If you're based at either of those top-rated campsites - both five stars for good reason - the centre is useful context for understanding local life rather than a destination in itself.

Give it twenty minutes if you're passing through. Don't make it the reason you visit the area. Lewes itself, though, absolutely does warrant a proper afternoon.
