Jenny's Wood

The woodland walk at Jenny's Wood, just outside Boston, is the sort of place locals know about and visitors stumble upon by accident - which rather spoils the secret, but there we are. It's a proper mixed woodland, the kind where you can actually breathe properly and forget the flat Lincolnshire landscape exists for a bit.

What you get is about two kilometres of woodland paths through a mix of broadleaf and conifer trees. The paths are well-maintained and mostly level, though muddy patches are guaranteed after rain. There's genuine woodland atmosphere here - moss-covered logs, the sound of birds, occasional clearings where light filters through the canopy. It's free to wander, no entrance fees or barriers, which speaks volumes.

Families with younger kids will find it manageable, though there's not much in terms of structured activities or playgrounds. It's more for people who actually enjoy a quiet woodland walk without the crowds. Serious walkers could do it in forty minutes flat; those inclined to linger and listen will stretch it to ninety minutes.

The location works well alongside the nearby holiday parks - Orchard Holiday Park and Appletree are both within three kilometres, making Jenny's Wood a decent option for a morning walk before heading back for lunch. Big Sky Hideaway, slightly further afield, would suit those wanting a more remote base. Go early on weekends if you value solitude. The wood doesn't get hammered with visitors, which is exactly why it's worth the short drive from Boston.
