Jeffrey's Swag

Jeffrey's Swag is a modest lake just outside Rugeley, tucked into the Staffordshire landscape where you'd walk right past it if you weren't paying attention. It's not spectacular - more of a local spot than a destination in itself - but if you're camping nearby at Cannock Chase or one of the other sites in the area, it's worth knowing about.

The lake itself is small and quiet, the sort of place where you might spot a few fishermen early morning or families with kids throwing bread at ducks. There's a basic walk around it, nothing strenuous, which takes maybe twenty minutes if you're not lingering. The banks are muddy in places after rain, so proper shoes are essential. Swimming isn't advisable and facilities are minimal - no café, no visitor centre, nothing like that.

It's genuinely useful as a leg-stretch during a longer Cannock Chase holiday rather than a main attraction. If you're staying at Chase Camping at Tackeroo or Silver Trees Holiday Park, you could pop over for an hour without faffing about. Children might manage thirty minutes of interest before getting restless, unless they're properly into wildlife spotting.

Free access as far as we can tell, no entrance fees to worry about. Best visited on a calm day when the water's still - windy weather just makes it look grey and uninviting. Early morning or late afternoon brings out a bit more character than midday does.
