It's a working winery on the island itself - rare enough up here - where they've planted vines and actually make wine from them rather than just shifting bottles from elsewhere. The tasting room overlooks the vines, and you can see what they're doing across the seasons rather than just read about it on a laminated card.

You're looking at a couple of hours maximum, which works perfectly if you're splitting time between the distillery trail and something less obvious. The staff know their stuff without being pretentious about it, and they'll talk through what grows well in Islay's climate (spoiler: it's harder than you'd think). If you're a wine person tired of Syrah recommendations, it's refreshing. If you're here with non-whisky drinkers, it's actually somewhere they might prefer.

The location matters too. Admission details are worth checking ahead, but factor it in as the mid-range option on an Islay day rather than a headline attraction. It won't blow your mind, but it's genuinely worth the visit.
