Inverkip War Memorial

The memorial sits on a clifftop overlooking the Firth of Clyde, and the walk up from Inverkip village takes you through proper woodland before you reach the stone monument itself. It's a quiet spot - the kind of place where you hear more gulls than people, which is exactly the point.

This isn't a manicured attraction. It's a working nature reserve wrapped around a First World War memorial, and that combination makes it feel genuine. The views across the water toward Dunoon and beyond are excellent, particularly on a clear day when you can see right down the coast. Historically minded visitors will appreciate the memorial itself - it's austere and moving without being showy. But equally, this works as a simple woodland walk with a reward at the end. Families with young kids might find it a touch steep for what it is, and if the weather turns, there's not much shelter up there.

It's free and open as far as I can tell, though there's no visitor infrastructure - no café, no facilities beyond the path itself.
