Inverkip Church sits first, a straightforward Presbyterian affair overlooking the water. Nothing flashy, just solid Victorian stonework and the kind of peaceful churchyard where you can actually hear yourself think.

Skelmorlie's the pick of the bunch, to be honest. There's something about the way it commands the landscape that makes you stop and look properly - it's got real presence without being pompous. Wemyss Bay rounds things out with its own modest charm, though by the third one you'll have got the pattern.

These aren't attractions that'll eat up your day. An hour covers all three comfortably, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type who likes to sit in empty churches and read the memorial plaques.
