It's the sort of place where parents can actually sit down with a coffee while kids burn off energy for hours - which, frankly, is worth its weight in gold on a rainy Northeast afternoon.

The setup is straightforward: dozens of bouncy castles, obstacle courses, and slides arranged across a cavernous hall. Toddlers get their own smaller section, which means you're not constantly fishing your two-year-old out from under a gang of boisterous eight-year-olds. The inflatables themselves are well-maintained and reasonably clean, though it does get properly rammed during school holidays and weekends - go on a quiet weekday if you can.

You'll want to allow two to three hours minimum, longer if your lot is the type who'd happily stay all day. Socks are mandatory, and the whole operation runs on a time-slot basis rather than drop-in, so check ahead before you pile into the car.

For a park holiday at Parkdean Resorts Whitley Bay or the Old Hartley campsite, this makes a solid rainy-day backup.
