About Hunt Tor
This is walkers' territory. Families with young kids might find the exposed moorland a bit of a slog, and there's nothing to do once you arrive except admire the view and take photos. No cafe, no facilities. But if you're the sort who enjoys a good moorland tramp and doesn't need coddling at the summit, it's absolutely worth the detour.
The nearest base is Okehampton itself, which is right on the edge of Dartmoor and fairly grim as towns go. Far better to stay at Lydford Caravan & Camping Park, just a few miles away - that gives you access to proper walking country without the town faff. Allow a couple of hours for the walk itself depending on fitness, and go early or late in the day when the light's best and the moor feels less crowded.
Best visited on a clear morning. When the cloud rolls in, the whole point rather evaporates.
