Hull City Hall

Hull City Hall dominates Queen Victoria Square with a confidence that's hard to miss. Built in 1901, this Edwardian Baroque building sits right at the heart of the city, all confident stonework and a copper dome that's turned a lovely verdigris green over the decades. Inside, the main hall is used for concerts, theatre, and civic events - so what you can actually see depends entirely on what's on. The public spaces are worth a quick look if there's nothing ticketed happening, though frankly the real appeal is standing outside taking in the architecture and imagining Hull's industrial heyday.

History buffs will appreciate it more than most. The building represents a period when Hull was proper wealthy - a major port with money to throw at proper civic buildings. It's not a destination in itself unless you're catching a specific performance, but it makes a good anchor point for an afternoon wandering the city centre.

The nearest town is Beverley, about fifteen miles away - if you're camping at Manor Farm Camping nearby, you could easily spend a morning poking around Hull's museums and architecture before heading back out to the countryside. Allow thirty minutes to have a proper look, maybe an hour if there's a show on that appeals to you. Free to view from outside; ticketed performances vary. Go midweek if you want the square to yourself rather than competing with the Saturday crowds.
