Horsebush Hill

The walk up Horsebush Hill takes about twenty minutes from the car park near Petersfield, and the effort pays off with proper views across Hampshire's rolling countryside. It's not a dramatic summit - more of a gentle rise through woodland that opens out onto chalk downland - but that's rather the point. You get the sense of actually being somewhere, not just ticking a box.

The hill itself is modest in height, which makes it accessible for families with younger legs and anyone who fancies a walk without the scramble. The path is well-trodden and clear. On a decent day, the views stretch far enough to justify the climb, though don't expect Alpine drama - this is English pastoral countryside, all hedgerows and distant hills fading into haze.

Walkers will find it a straightforward half-hour outing, easily combined with other Petersfield-area walks. It works well as a morning sortie before settling into a longer day elsewhere. History enthusiasts might be interested in the chalk downland ecology, though signage is minimal.

If you're based at Feather Down Manor Farm or Adhurst Yurts - both excellent stays within five miles - this makes a natural addition to your itinerary. Neither park is far away, so you could easily visit as part of a broader walking day. Free to access, no facilities at the top, so bring water. Best visited in autumn or spring when the woodland's less stuffy and views clearer. Summer can be a bit green and claustrophobic if you're hoping for distance.
