Horcott Lakes

The lakes at Horcott sit just outside Fairford, a proper slice of water-based calm that doesn't demand much fuss. You get two main lakes - peaceful, reed-lined stretches that pull in walkers, anglers, and anyone after a decent chunk of countryside without the tourist crowds. The paths around them are straightforward enough, flat mostly, and you can knock out a couple of miles without breaking a sweat.

It's the kind of place where you'll spot waterfowl year-round. Bring binoculars if you're into that sort of thing; the birdwatching here is solid without being spectacular. Families with younger kids will manage fine on the walks, though there's nothing fancy in the way of attractions - no café, no playground, just water and footpaths. Anglers get genuine value from this spot, and it's where serious fishermen come to spend a day.

The real strength is how it fits into a wider park holiday in the area. Great Farm is barely over a mile away - one of the region's best-reviewed parks - so you've got an excellent base for exploring the Cotswolds without being trapped in the honeypot villages. Pop over for a morning walk, grab your lunch back at the caravan, and you're set. It's the kind of local advantage that makes staying put rather than driving to every attraction actually make sense.

Access appears to be free, and there are no formal opening times, which means you can turn up when you fancy it. Best avoided mid-summer weekends if peace and quiet matter to you.
