Reddown Hill

The walk up Reddown Hill rewards you with views across the Cotswold Water Park - all 150 lakes spreading out like someone's spilt a box of mirrors across the landscape. The hill itself sits near Fairford, that proper market town with the church that looks like it's made from golden stone. From the top you get the full sweep of the water park below - genuinely atmospheric on a clear day, bit gloomy and atmospheric if the clouds roll in. Walkers get the most from this one; it's straightforward enough that you won't need a map, but long enough to feel like proper exercise.

There's no visitor infrastructure on the hill itself - bring your own water if it's warm. The real value here is as part of a broader Cotswolds walking trip. You're well positioned to combine it with the nearby parks like Second Chance or Faringdon Grange as a base. The walk works best in spring when the grass is green but the ground's not waterlogged, or early autumn when everything's still lush. Skip the peak summer weeks unless you enjoy crowds and overheated legs.
