Hook Wood

The trees in Hook Wood are properly tall, and they seem to go on for ages. It's a decent woodland walk near Aylesford - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think, which is rare enough these days. The paths wind through mixed woodland with a fair bit of shade, so it's genuinely pleasant on warm days.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not spectacularly dramatic or anything, but if you want a solid hour or two ambling through trees without worrying about crowds, it delivers. Families with kids who like spotting wildlife or splashing through the occasional stream will do fine here too. The woodland floor changes with the seasons - it's muddy in winter, which is part of the charm, really.

For a forest walk, there's nothing fancy about Hook Wood. No visitor centre, no tearoom, just you and the trees. That's actually the point. If you're staying at Go Glamp or the Bearsted caravan site nearby, it's a logical add-on to your day without eating up much petrol. Allow a couple of hours depending on how wandery you're feeling.

Check local conditions before you head out - wet weather can make the paths a bit grim - but on a decent day it's worth the detour. Nothing life-changing, but a proper woodland walk that justifies the drive from Aylesford.
