Honeypot Wood

Honeypot Wood sits on the edge of County Durham, a proper woodland walk that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. It's the kind of place locals know well and visitors stumble upon by accident - which is often the best way to find it.

The woodland itself is straightforward: mature trees, decent paths, and the sort of quiet that makes you remember why you came to the North East in the first place. There's a stream running through, which the kids will want to paddle in if you're not watching. The site has a good reputation, and Honeypot Wood is the sort of low-key walk you'd do on a morning before heading elsewhere for lunch. Families will manage it fine provided the kids are okay with "just trees" - it won't keep them entertained for a full day, but as part of a broader exploration of Durham's green spaces, it works well.
