Holy Trinity Church, Wallington

The graveyard at Holy Trinity sits on a gentle slope overlooking Wallington, and it's the kind of place where you could easily spend twenty minutes just wandering between the stones. The church itself dates back centuries, all flint and weathered brick, the sort of building that feels properly rooted to its patch of Surrey countryside.

Inside, it's what you'd expect from a parish church in these parts - decent medieval bones, some stained glass worth a look, and that particular smell of old stone and furniture polish that seems universal to English churches. The real draw here is the sense of place. This isn't a showstopper attraction that'll occupy your day, but it's exactly the kind of stop that makes a park holiday feel less rushed.

Wallington itself is small and suburban, nothing fancy, so don't expect to make an afternoon of it. But if you're based at Alderstead Heath Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite - only six miles south - it's a straightforward drive from the motorhome. Give yourself an hour, maybe longer if you're one for reading the inscriptions and imagining the lives behind them.

There's a proper walking trail through the churchyard, and on a clear day the views across Surrey are decent enough. It works well as a gentle break between exploring the larger parks in the area, or as part of a weekend potter around the villages south of Redhill. Best visited midweek when there's a bit of peace.
