Holbeck Hill

Twenty minutes south of Scarborough along the coast road, this unassuming hillside spot offers one of Yorkshire's finest sea views without the crowds. The clifftop position puts you well above the waves, with sweeping vistas across Filey Bay and beyond on clear days.

Getting there involves a short but fairly steep walk from the nearest parking - nothing too taxing, but probably not one for pushchairs or anyone with mobility issues. The reward is worth the effort though: proper panoramic coastal scenery that photographers and sunset watchers will love.

Families with older children will appreciate the space to explore, and it's free to visit whenever you fancy. Dog walkers seem to know about this place too, so expect some four-legged company.

For those staying at nearby parks like Cayton Bay or Blue Dolphin, Holbeck Hill makes a lovely evening destination when the weather's fine. Allow an hour or so, longer if you're planning to catch the sunset. The lack of facilities means bringing your own refreshments, but that's a small price for such unspoilt coastal views.
