Hinton Wood

Hinton Wood sits just outside Bridgnorth, a proper slice of Shropshire woodland that doesn't get the attention it deserves. The forest floor here is thick with moss and ferns, and the canopy does a decent job of blocking out the noise from the outside world. You'll find yourself on tracks that wind through mixed woodland - oak, beech, and conifers all jostling for space above your head.

It's the kind of place where an hour melts into two without you noticing. The paths are well-trodden enough that you won't get lost, but quiet enough that you might have the place to yourself on a weekday. Kids will enjoy spotting wildlife - deer aren't uncommon here, and the stream running through the wood keeps things interesting. There's something honest about it: no visitor centre, no café, just trees and tracks.

Walkers will find it rewarding, particularly if you're after a gentle morning ramble rather than a punishing hike. The terrain is manageable, though it can get muddy after rain. Allow two hours maximum to see the main sections without feeling rushed. Autumn here is exceptional - the canopy turns proper golden, and the light filtering through is the kind of thing that makes you grateful you left your phone in the car.
