Hill of Turclossie

The walk up Hill of Turclossie rewards you with proper views across Aberdeenshire's rolling farmland and towards the coast near Fraserburgh. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the Cairngorms - but on a clear day you can see right out to sea, which lifts the whole thing above a bog-standard local trudge.

The ascent itself takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and fitness. It's steep enough to feel like proper exercise without being brutal, and the paths are well-trodden so you won't get lost. Walkers will appreciate the straightforward route and the payoff at the top; families with younger kids might find it a bit of a grind, though determined ones aged 10 and up should manage fine.

There's nothing at the summit itself - no café, no interpretation board, no crowds. Just you, the wind, and the view. That's either exactly what you want or precisely what will disappoint you, depending on your style.

If you're camping or glamping around Fraserburgh, this works well as a morning out. Several sites sit within striking distance - AC/DC Glamping is just 3.2 miles away, while East Balthangie and Clochforbie Yurts are both under five miles. It's the sort of walk that fits neatly between breakfast and lunch, so you can knock it off early and still have the afternoon free for the coast. Worth doing if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way just for this one.
