Hill Crest

The walk up to Hill Crest rewards you with decent views across the Northamptonshire countryside, though calling it a peak might be overselling things a touch. It's more of a proper hill than a dramatic summit, but that's rather the point - this is gentle walking country, not Alpine drama.

You'll get the best sense of the landscape from the top, where on a clear day you can see across to the surrounding villages and farmland. The walk itself takes around 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and where you start from. It's accessible enough for most fitness levels, though the final stretch does climb a bit steeply.

This works well as part of a day out from Market Harborough, which sits just a few miles away. If you're camped at one of the nearby sites - Buttercup Meadow or Valley View Escapes are both close - it makes a cracking morning walk before heading into town for lunch. Families with older children will manage it without too much complaint. Walkers will appreciate the relative solitude and the chance to stretch their legs properly.

There's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit itself, so bring water and pack a packed lunch if you fancy stopping at the top. Best visited on a clear day when the views justify the effort - arriving after rain when everything's muddy and visibility's poor feels a bit pointless.

It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a broader walking holiday rather than warranting a dedicated trip, but that doesn't make it any less worthwhile.
