Hill 60

The view from Hill 60 stretches across West Yorkshire in all directions, which is the main draw. It's a proper vantage point - higher ground with Leeds close enough to see but far enough away that it doesn't dominate the landscape. The walk up takes about twenty minutes depending on fitness and the path quality, and once you're at the top there's genuinely nowhere to sit and admire it properly, which feels like a missed opportunity.

For walkers doing a longer route through the Pennines or approaching from Glenfield Caravan Park or Moor Lodge just down the road, Hill 60 works as a natural waypoint rather than a destination in itself. History types won't find much - there's no interpretation or facilities to speak of. Families with young children might find the ascent tedious without a proper payoff at the summit. It's bleak on a grey day and can feel windswept even when the weather looks fine from the car park.

There's no admission charge because there's nothing to charge for. Allow an hour return trip if you're stopping for photos. The best light is late afternoon when you get long shadows across the valleys. It's free, it's accessible, and the walk is genuinely pleasant if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks and need to stretch your legs. Just don't expect a cafe or a bench with your name on it. Go if you're already in the area doing other walks. Don't make a special journey.
