High Lodge Disc Golf

Disc golf at High Lodge is one of those things you'll either immediately get or utterly dismiss the moment you arrive. It's essentially frisbee golf - you're flinging a weighted disc from a tee area toward a basket target through the woodland, and you do it across 18 holes spread through proper forest. The whole thing takes about ninety minutes if you're not competitive, longer if you're actually trying.

The course winds through conifers and open glades east of Bury Saint Edmunds, and it's surprisingly absorbing. You're constantly reading the terrain, working out where to throw, whether to risk the wooded route or play it safe. Kids find it genuinely fun because there's immediate feedback - you either hit the basket or you don't - and it beats paying a fortune for a round of proper golf. Adults who throw frisbees recreationally take it seriously. Beginners? You'll be fine. The course isn't brutally difficult.

Free to play, which is the main selling point. You'll need your own disc unless Forestry England has rental gear available - worth checking their website first. High Lodge itself is a forest recreation area with parking and proper facilities, so it's not a case of rocking up to a muddy field.
