About Hesk Fell
What gets you up here is the ridge walking. Once you've hit the top, the fell opens out nicely, and the moorland landscape either side gives you proper space to breathe. On a clear day you'll clock Scafell Pike and some of the bigger peaks; less clear weather and you're squinting at cloud, which is just how it goes in Cumbria. Allow three hours there and back if you're moving steadily, a bit longer if you've got younger legs in the party.
It's free, obviously - it's a fell. No cafe, no visitor centre, no gift shop. Bring water and something to eat. The nearest proper base is Holmrook itself, which is tiny, but Fisherground Campsite sits just 3.7 miles away and does a solid job if you're planning a proper Lake District holiday. Pair this with walks in the surrounding area and you've got a decent day. On its own? It's fine, but there's nothing here that'll stick in your memory like some of the showier peaks will.
