The art gallery upstairs has rotating exhibitions, which vary wildly depending on when you visit. Some trips you'll find something genuinely worth your time; others it's a bit thin on the ground.

History buffs will spend a couple of hours here without complaint, especially if they want the full story of Herefordshire's importance during Roman times and beyond. Families with younger kids might manage 45 minutes before boredom sets in, unless there's a particular exhibition running. The real draw is probably the Mappa Mundi connection - this museum holds related collections if you're already visiting the cathedral across the way.

Admission is free, which takes the sting out of a rainy afternoon. Allow about ninety minutes if you're reading labels properly. If you're camping at Ridge Hill or Broadmeadow, both just over two miles away, it's an easy wet-weather option without the drive.
