Heath Copse

A proper woodland walk just outside Thatcham, Heath Copse delivers exactly what you'd want from a Berkshire forest - tall trees, quiet paths, and enough space to actually feel away from it all without needing a sit-down afterwards. The mix of deciduous woodland and open glades gives you plenty of visual variety as you move through, and the paths are generally well-maintained underfoot, though they can get boggy after rain.

It's the sort of place that works best for families with kids aged six upwards - younger children might struggle with the distance, but there's genuinely something satisfying about letting them loose on proper woodland trails rather than park paths. Dog walkers absolutely rate it, and if you're the type who notices birds and small mammals, you'll find decent viewing opportunities, particularly early morning.
