Hazlitt Wood Pond

A small pond tucked into woodland just outside Bury, Hazlitt Wood Pond is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan a trip for. The water is ringed by trees, and on a quiet morning there's something genuinely peaceful about it - the kind of spot where you might actually hear birdsong instead of the A58.

It's best suited to a short leg-stretch rather than a full afternoon. Walk around the perimeter, maybe sit on a bench if the weather cooperates. Birdwatchers do come here, and I'd imagine it's worth a visit in spring or early summer when there's proper wildlife activity. Winter feels a bit bleak by comparison.

If you're staying at Burrs Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite nearby, this is within easy reach for a morning wander before heading elsewhere. The pond itself won't occupy you long - half an hour, forty-five minutes tops - but it's the kind of gentle, free addition that makes a park holiday feel less regimented. No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring your own water and don't expect to grab lunch. It's purely a nature spot, accessible, and honest about what it is. Go if you're in the area and want something quiet. Don't drive across Lancashire specifically for it.
